“Lima en V.O. – The City in Its Original Version” concluded with a public event featuring the National Children’s Choir of Peru. The initiative, led by La Combi – Arte Rodante and the Cultural Centre of Spain in Lima, was supported by UNESCO Peru, the National Library of Peru, and the Ministry of Culture’s National Children’s Choir. Its goal was to strengthen the appreciation and visibility of Indigenous languages in urban educational contexts within Lima.
The project ran during the Week of Cultural and Linguistic Diversity and the Week of Cultural and Artistic Education, aligning with UNESCO’s International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022–2032). Its objectives included promoting inclusive educational practices that recognize Peru’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
The project had two main components. The first involved workshops for fifth- and sixth-grade teachers from public schools in the districts of Comas and San Juan de Lurigancho, areas served by UNESCO’s “Learning Without Barriers” programme. These workshops provided pedagogical training for incorporating Indigenous languages into classrooms using creative and audiovisual methods.
Building on La Combi – Arte Rodante's expertise with creative methodologies and Community Audiovisual Dictionaries, the project encouraged participatory approaches that engaged children and adolescents with Peru’s linguistic richness. Peru is home to 48 Indigenous languages spoken by more than four million people, which remain a vital part of life in Lima due to ongoing migratory and cultural processes.
The second component was a public closing concert titled “Tinkuy: Multilingual Songbook of Peru,” performed by the National Children’s Choir of Peru. Supported by the National Library of Peru and the Directorate of National Ensembles of the Ministry of Culture, the event celebrated the country’s linguistic diversity.
