UNESCO Project Leverages AI and Dialogue to Promote Social Cohesion in Cox's Bazar

Munia Islam Mozumder developed a project to foster social cohesion through intercultural dialogue and AI-enhanced learning in Cox's Bazar, targeting both host and displaced communities. The initiative was selected under UNESCO's Youth for Peace: Intercultural Leadership Programme, implemented by UNESCO's Sciences Sector, which provided her with training and funding.

As part of the project, Munia trained young facilitators from local schools and communities. These fellows used a three-stage approach that combined dialogue, storytelling, and shared learning. Activities included going door to door to build relationships and organizing discussions that brought parents and teachers together to explore how families and schools can better support students.

In classrooms, AI-powered lessons helped unite students from different backgrounds in mathematics, English, social science, and science. The technology fostered shared learning and collaborative problem-solving. For example, facilitators guided students in using AI tools to design posters raising awareness about menstrual hygiene, transforming classroom work into community awareness initiatives.
