Samuel Ogazi, an Olympic finalist representing Alabama, clocked 43.38 seconds to retain his NCAA 400m title in Eugene. This performance placed him fourth on the world 400m all-time list and broke both the Nigerian record and the US collegiate record, previously held by Michael Norman. Only Wayde van Niekerk, Michael Johnson, and Butch Reynolds have faster times.
Jaiden Reid of LSU set a world-leading and US collegiate record in the men's 200m with a time of 19.63 seconds. This run moved him to joint 12th on the world all-time list and surpassed the previous collegiate record of 19.69 seconds held since 2007. Reid also ran a wind-aided 9.82 seconds in the 100m, finishing second.
In the 110m hurdles, Auburn’s Ja’Kobe Tharp retained his title by winning in 12.90 seconds, marking the joint 11th fastest performance in history. Kendrick Smallwood also broke the 13-second barrier, recording a personal best of 12.95 seconds.
Distance runner Habtom Samuel from New Mexico won both the 5000m and 10,000m events, achieving a distance double after being runner-up in both last year.
Other event winners included Great Britain’s Kimani Jack in the high jump and Jamaica’s Ralford Mullings in discus. Arkansas claimed the men’s team title at the NCAA Championships.
