The inaugural Asian U23 Championships took place in Ordos from 9 to 12 July, showcasing impressive achievements by emerging athletes. Malaysian record-holder Muhammad Azeem Fahmi won the men's 100m final in 10.17 seconds, narrowly ahead of Iraq's Falah Al-Khazaali, who set a national record of 10.21 seconds to take silver. Qatar’s Salah Nur Ismail Yunis secured third place. Fahmi also clocked 10.15 seconds in the heats, showing strong form ahead of the Asian Games.
In the women's 100m, China's Xue Kunzhi improved her personal best to 11.37 seconds; she was previously part of the Chinese silver-medal 4x100m relay team at the Asian Relays. However, she did not start the 200m, while Fahmi was disqualified for a false start in that event. Other Chinese winners included Huang Youwen and Jiang Yutong in the men's and women's 200m, respectively. India won the mixed relay in a tight finish against China.

He finished ahead of Sri Lanka's Ayomal Akalanka Liyanage, who clocked 49.03 seconds. Japanese runner Shinya Hayashi won the men's 400m with a personal second-best time of 45.26 seconds.
