More than 1800 athletes from 147 member federations are registered to compete at the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26, held at Hayward Field from August 5-9. This sets a new record for the event, surpassing the previous high of 1558 athletes at the 2024 Lima championships.
The entry list includes several medallists from previous World U20 Championships, such as Jamaican sprinters Gary Card and Shanoya Douglas, who lead the men's U20 100m and women's 100m and 200m events. Australian high jumper Izobelle Louison-Roe, a silver medallist two years ago, is also competing.
Other notable entrants are Czech athlete Michal Rada, Mexico's Emiliano Barba, and Uganda's Charity Cherop, all past silver medallists. Kenyan runner Frankline Kibet, this year's world U20 cross-country champion, will aim for more titles.
American athletes expected to compete include Olympic 4x400m relay champion Quincy Wilson, double US U20 sprint champion Tate Taylor, and twins Mia and Mariah Maxwell, who placed first and second in the US U20 100m and 200m events.
Organizers stated that official start lists will be published after a technical meeting just before the start of the championships.
