Alex Bowen and Drew Holland, Stanford University graduates and key members of the USA men’s water polo team for over a decade, have announced they are stepping away from international competition after helping Team USA win a bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. This was the team’s first Olympic podium finish since 2008.

Bowen, renowned for his attacking skills, has been a central player for Team USA since 2013. His career highlights include three Pan American Games gold medals and a bronze in Paris. He scored 13 goals at the 2024 Games and previously competed at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, totaling 21 goals in those appearances. Domestically, he has played for the New York Athletic Club, and professionally he competed across Europe, including Spain, France, Serbia, Greece, Hungary, and Croatia.

Drew Holland, a top goalkeeper, also earned a Pan American Games gold medal and made his Olympic debut in Tokyo before helping Team USA secure bronze in Paris. Both athletes will be honored at upcoming exhibition matches this summer.

Bowen expressed gratitude to those who supported his career, noting that water polo shaped much of his personal discipline and identity. He now prioritizes fatherhood, emphasizing his pride in representing the USA, and stated that the pool will always feel like home as he starts new chapters in life.
