Hungary secured gold in the Open Mixed 4x1500m Relay at the World Junior Championships after a close race against Italy. The final sprint was decided by Mate Karpati, who surged ahead in the last 25 metres to secure victory over Italy’s Ivan Sartor. Karpati’s teammates—Napsugar Nagy, Mira Miszlai, and Balint Kriesz—joined him in celebration on the pontoon. Karpati expressed pride in representing Hungary, describing the win as a dream come true. He noted that despite seeing Sartor close in, he focused on giving his all to maintain the lead. The Italian team of Ginevra Bagaglini, Mahlia Spennato, Davide Grossi, and Ivan Sartor took silver. Their recent silver at the European Junior Championships also highlighted their strength. Strong early legs by Bagaglini and Spennato set up Grossi for a strong third lap, allowing Sartor to close the gap on Karpati and move ahead of Russia and Australia before finishing second.
The United States claimed the bronze medal, with Colin Jacobs playing a key role with his closing speed on the final relay leg. While no relay result is individual, Jacobs’ performance was instrumental in the team’s podium finish.
