The mixed 4x100m relay will be the first track final at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, with the world record likely to be challenged again. Jamaica leads as the reigning world record holder after clocking 39.62 seconds with Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson, and Tia Clayton at the World Relays in Gaborone on 3 May 2026. Their performance established Jamaica as early favorites for Budapest.
Great Britain & NI earned a major result by winning the European Championship in Birmingham in 39.97 seconds, ranking them second on the world all-time list. Their team—Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, and Amy Hunt—set a new continental record, solidifying their status as key contenders.
Other strong teams include Canada, which set a world record of 40.07 seconds in World Relays heats before Jamaica surpassed it, as well as the USA and Germany. The USA’s sprint depth adds to their threat, despite uncertainty about the final lineup. Germany, after taking silver at the European Championships in 40.11 seconds, is fourth on the global all-time list, with Spain and Nigeria also qualifying for the final.
The Netherlands and Hungary also made the final, with the Netherlands clocking 40.20 seconds in the World Relays heat. Since its introduction at the World Relays in Guangzhou in 2025, this event has developed rapidly, with multiple national records broken within months of its inception.
