Ukraine’s world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed the inaugural high jump title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship Budapest 26, achieving a winning height of 1.99m. She had only one failed attempt up to that height and made three attempts at 2.04m, which would have surpassed her own world lead, but did not clear it. Her victory makes her the event’s first Ultimate champion.
Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers, the reigning Olympic champion, finished second with a clearance of 1.95m. Australia’s Eleanor Patterson, a recent Diamond League winner, and Serbia’s world bronze medallist Angelina Topić, shared third place with 1.91m. Mahuchikh started at 1.91m, cleared 1.91m and 1.95m on her first attempts, and needed two tries at 1.99m to secure victory after Olyslagers failed at that height.
The event took place at the Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre on a chilly evening. After being confirmed as champion, Mahuchikh attempted 2.04m but could not clear the bar. She expressed pride in becoming the first Ultimate champion, adding to her previous world title, Olympic gold, and two world indoor victories.
The turning point came at 1.95m, when Olyslagers succeeded on her third attempt, while Mahuchikh cleared it on her first, gaining a crucial advantage. Other competitors were unable to clear the bar after three attempts at this height, finalizing the standings.
