The World Aquatics Foundation has launched the Drowning Prevention Award to recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to preventing drowning worldwide. Two grants of USD $25,000 each will be awarded in 2026 to nominees from Member Federations, Continental Organisations, partners, and the global aquatics community who have had a notable impact through education, water safety training, community programs, or increased access to safe swimming environments.
World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam described drowning as a preventable global public health crisis. He highlighted the importance of partnership and collaboration in addressing the issue, noting that most drowning deaths are accidents that can be prevented through education, supervision, safer environments, and improved skills. He also referenced existing efforts such as the World Aquatics Discover Water program and initiatives led by Member Federations.
The Foundation, established to address challenges in aquatic sports, water safety, and environmental sustainability, aims to expand its impact on drowning prevention alongside its focus on athlete development and community programs.
