The U16 men's water polo championship in Zagreb features 36 national teams competing over seven days, with 18 matches played daily. The format includes four days of league play, where teams earn points based on their opponents' strength and match outcomes. After the league phase, the top eight teams advance to the medal quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. Teams ranked ninth through 16th follow a similar classification path, continuing down to those in the 33-36 group, who play a round-robin to determine final rankings.

This structure ensures all nations face strong teams, allowing the best squads to emerge in the later stages. While similar to the recent women’s U16 championship, the men’s event features a denser schedule due to the high number of teams and matches.

The tournament includes 18 European teams, seven from the Americas, six from Asia, three from Africa, and two from Oceania, marking the largest participation in the event’s three editions. Newcomers are Malaysia, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, and Uruguay. Bulgaria, which played in 2024, is not participating this year, while Japan, Switzerland, Latvia, and Azerbaijan return after missing the last edition.

The first round's detailed schedule sees matchups including Kazakhstan vs. Egypt, Spain vs. South Africa, and Germany vs. Uruguay, with games running from early morning into the evening over the four-day league phase. These results set the stage for the following knockout and classification rounds.

Past editions saw Spain win gold, with Italy and Hungary earning silver and bronze in 2024, and Hungary defeating Greece for gold with Serbia taking bronze in 2022. This year’s tournament promises to highlight emerging U16 water polo talent on the global stage in a competitive and structured environment.
