World Athletics has ratified several new world and world U20 records, including Yomif Kejelcha’s men’s 10km world record of 26:31 set in Castellón on 16 February 2025. This follows the disqualification of Rhonex Kipruto’s 26:24 performance from January 2020 after his suspension and annulment of results due to an anti-doping violation. Kejelcha now holds both the men’s 10km world record and the world half marathon record of 57:30, set in Valencia the previous year.
In other achievements, Josh Hoey of the USA set a men’s 800m short track world record with a time of 1:42.50 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on 24 January 2026, improving on Wilson Kipketer's 1997 mark of 1:42.67.
Japan’s Toshikazu Yamanishi set the inaugural world half marathon race walk record with a time of 1:20:34 in Kobe on 15 February 2026, bettering the standard of 1:21:30 approved by World Athletics in December. Yamanishi is a two-time world gold medallist in race walking.
World U20 records were also updated: Ethiopia’s Saron Berhe ran 4:01.23 in the 1500m short track in Ostrava, improving on the previous Ethiopian record from 2020. Cooper Lutkenhaus of the USA set the 800m short track world U20 record at 1:44.03 in Winston Salem on 14 February, surpassing Yuriy Borzakovskiy’s 2000 mark.
Additional U20 records include Gout Gout’s 19.67 in the 200m short track in Sydney. These ratifications represent the latest officially recognized performances in road running, indoor track, and race walking disciplines by World Athletics.
