The United Nations has raised serious concerns about new illegal Israeli settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, including the controversial E1 area, where a tender for over 1,200 new housing units was recently issued. The Secretary-General has called on Israel to halt these plans and urged compliance with relevant UN resolutions and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion, which deemed Israel’s occupation of Gaza and the West Bank unlawful. The E1 plan could sever the link between East Jerusalem and the West Bank, threatening the territorial integrity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the feasibility of a two-state solution.

Current Israeli military operations in the West Bank have resulted in a siege-like situation in Dahiriya, Hebron. Approximately 40,000 Palestinians, including children, are under curfew, prevented from leaving their homes, while access to basic supplies, essential services, and workplaces is severely restricted. Reports indicate the use of snipers, road blockades, and at least seven Palestinian homes repurposed for interrogation. The UN emphasized the need to protect homes and families and called for security operations to adhere to international law and respect the dignity of civilians.

Meanwhile, despite a provisional ceasefire from October 2025 intended to end a two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas, Israeli military activity continues west of the so-called “Yellow Line.” An Israeli airstrike recently resulted in at least seven deaths and several injuries at a Gaza seaport, according to initial local reports.
