The Mongolian Heritage Programme (MHP) recently held a Field School from 2 to 7 September 2026 in the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The session brought together 16 participants and two international heritage management experts to enhance practical skills in heritage management.
Jointly implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and the Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth as well as the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, the MHP aims to strengthen the capacities of local heritage professionals and cultivate a new generation of practitioners.
The Field School forms the third component of the MHP's comprehensive capacity-building programme, conducted during 2025–2026. It offered participants the opportunity to apply knowledge and tools in a real World Heritage context, focusing on integrating tangible and intangible heritage elements in managing a living cultural landscape.
Looking ahead, the programme plans to develop the Field School initiative into a dedicated degree programme in cultural heritage management, supporting ongoing capacity building in Mongolia.
