World champion Faith Cherotich dominated the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning with a time of 9:01.76. She broke away from the field in the closing stages, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of England’s Elise Thorner, who recorded a personal best of 9:05.45 for silver. Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda took bronze with 9:09.96.
In the women’s 100m hurdles final, Devynne Charlton secured gold with a wind-assisted 12.33 seconds, ahead of Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds (12.41) and defending champion Tobi Amusan of Nigeria (12.60). Amusan posted the fastest time in the heats at 12.19, but Charlton was strongest in the final.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage captured the men’s javelin title with an 89.75m throw in the second round, defeating a competitive field that included 2021 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra of India, who took silver with 85.83m. Chopra’s teammate Yashvir Singh earned bronze with a personal best of 85.41m. Two-time world champion Anderson Peters finished fourth, world champion Keshorn Walcott sixth, and Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem ninth.
Adaejah Hodge set a Games record in the women’s 200m semifinal with a time of 22.01 and then won the final in 22.07, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascombe (22.35). South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile claimed the men’s 200m in 19.96, followed by Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike at 20.09.
In the women’s 800m, Georgia Hunter Bell took gold in 1:59.51, overtaking Kenyan world champion Lilian Odira, who finished second in 2:00.58.
