Sudan is facing an escalating crisis marked by intensified conflict, mass displacement, and severe food insecurity. Since fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), approximately 8.6 million people have fled the violence, many crossing into neighbouring countries.
According to the World Food Programme, more than 19.5 million people out of Sudan's 51 million population are acutely food insecure. Additionally, the United Nations International Organization for Migration reports at least 200,000 new displacements due to increased clashes since late 2025.
The situation is further compounded by destructive seasonal floods, worsening the humanitarian emergency. UN agencies are actively working to deliver lifesaving aid despite these challenges.
The Security Council is receiving ongoing briefings from top UN officials on the deteriorating conditions in Sudan as civilians suffer from war, hunger, displacement, and flooding.
