The CDC and public health authorities are investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to broccoli sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts. The outbreak has resulted in 22 reported cases and two hospitalizations across Idaho, Montana, Washington, and one additional state, with no deaths so far.
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts has recalled broccoli sprouts sold to food co-ops, restaurants, food service customers, and grocery stores, mainly in Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The affected sprouts were packaged in plastic bags or clamshell containers with expiration dates from September 7 to September 16, 2026, and may have been distributed beyond these states.
Consumers are advised to discard or return the recalled broccoli sprouts and to clean and sanitize any surfaces or items that may have come into contact with the product, using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms, such as fever above 102°F, prolonged or bloody diarrhea, persistent vomiting, or signs of dehydration, should seek medical care promptly. Young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness.
Businesses should not sell or serve the recalled broccoli sprouts and should clean and sanitize any surfaces that came into contact with them.
