The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) is responsible for all aspects of international motorsport governance. It meets at least three times a year to decide on regulations, safety measures, and motorsport development at all levels, from karting to Formula One.

The council includes the FIA President, FIA Deputy President for Sport, seven Vice-Presidents, fourteen titular members, and five members by right. Except for the FIA President and members by right, all represent a National Sporting Authority (ASN) with at least one event on the International Sporting Calendar, each from different nationalities.

Members by right are the Chairperson of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, the President of the FIA International Karting Commission, the Representative of the Commercial Rights Holder of the FIA Formula One World Championship, the President of the FIA Manufacturers' Committee, and the President of the FIA Drivers’ Committee.

In administering international motorsport, the WMSC prioritizes enhancing safety and environmental standards across all forms of the sport. It also works to harmonize regulations across different series and supports motorsport growth, particularly among youth and in developing countries.
