UNESCO has announced the first session of the TechCul Dialogues, a webinar series focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and culture in East and Southeast Asia. The inaugural webinar will examine how AI is transforming cultural ecosystems, particularly within museums and collecting institutions.
The session will address AI applications in collection management, visitor engagement, accessibility, and curatorial innovation. It will consider both the opportunities and challenges of AI, including access, authority, representation, and ethical considerations.
Key topics include the specific institutional needs targeted by AI, changes in visitor engagement and curatorial practices, ethical issues with AI-generated content, and involvement of stakeholders such as communities, local artists, and persons with disabilities. The session will also discuss institutional infrastructure, partnerships, and recommendations for smaller museums with limited resources.
The webinar is scheduled for 17 September 2026 and will be held in English via Zoom. Launched at the 5th Creativity 2030 International Forum in Beijing in March 2026, the TechCul Dialogues promote dialogue, collaboration, and policy innovation on AI in culture in the region.
