The FIA launched the Rally Star programme in 2021 as a global talent search to train and develop future World Rally Championship stars. It aims to make rallying more accessible by working with National Sporting Authorities and utilizing grassroots disciplines such as Esports and Slalom challenges for young drivers aged 17 to 26.

Selection events have been held worldwide, with around 6,700 participants taking part in approximately 100 events across more than 50 countries. These included national competitions using Esports or Slalom formats and online selections in partnership with the WRC 9 game, providing opportunities even for those without access to local events.

After national rounds, top drivers advanced to Continental Finals in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. The multi-day events featured timed stages in LifeLive TN5 Cross Cars, physical tests, and jury interviews. Each Continental Final selected one overall winner, and top female competitors qualified for a dedicated Women’s Final.

The winners of the Continental Finals and the Women’s Final joined a 2023 training season that includes participation in at least six rallies driving M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally3 cars. The programme offers coaching covering physical and mental training, communication, marketing, and engineering to support driver development.

Of six candidates in the training season, the top four are set to advance to the FIA Junior WRC. The goal is to prepare these drivers to compete for podium finishes and titles in the World Rally Championship.
