The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported observing multiple projectile trajectories in recent days, most attributed to Israel and some to Hezbollah, while noting no violations of Lebanese airspace on one observed day. Extensive Israeli ground activities continued within UNIFIL’s operational area, including an incident in Tiri where two Israeli tanks blocked a UNIFIL convoy; one tank aimed its weapon at a UNIFIL vehicle and signaled the convoy to stop, forcing it to reverse and reroute the patrol.
UN officials, including spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, emphasized that UNIFIL peacekeepers must have unhindered freedom of movement throughout their operational area in line with their Security Council mandate. The UN Deputy Special Coordinator and humanitarian leader in Lebanon, together with UNIFIL head Major General Diodato Abagnara, met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, where General Abagnara reaffirmed UNIFIL’s commitment to fully implementing resolution 1701 as the framework for stability in south Lebanon.
On the humanitarian front, UNIFIL facilitated missions in the western sector to assist displaced persons. An additional $12 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund was allocated to provide critical services including healthcare, protection from gender-based violence, and addressing emerging food insecurity. According to the UN humanitarian agency OCHA, about 50,000 people have returned to their homes in Nabatieh and South Governorates since a regional ceasefire was announced.
