Colombia is advancing toward a people-centered digital education system by transforming its 'Computadores para Educar' program into 'Tecnologías para Aprender.' This new approach focuses on selecting and using technologies to meet pedagogical goals tailored to school projects and the specific needs of educational communities, rather than solely distributing devices.
A recent event analyzing this shift presented a Management Report and seven technical briefs summarizing practices from various educational institutions nationwide. These documents reflected the views of educational communities and government stakeholders on the policies and initiatives shaping digital citizenship education in Colombia.
According to the reports, while devices and connectivity are essential, they alone do not guarantee better learning outcomes. The strategy requires comprehensive efforts, including teacher training and support, curriculum integration, institutional leadership, evaluation mechanisms, environmental sustainability, financial stability, and governance structures that uphold the agency of students and educators.
Contributions from students, teachers, and communities during the event showed that schools actively adapt and repurpose technology to address educational, environmental, cultural, and community challenges, rather than passively implementing external solutions. The agenda also included documentary episodes showcasing diverse regional experiences promoting these goals.
The seven technical briefs presented at the conference are part of a Knowledge Management Project aimed at sharing lessons learned, identifying challenges and opportunities, and making recommendations to strengthen Colombia’s digital education policies moving forward.
