The International Monetary Fund (IMF) officially began operations at its Regional Office in Riyadh in April 2024. The launch featured a two-day conference co-organized with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Finance, focusing on industrial policy for economic diversification.

The office’s primary goals are to support economic policymaking and reforms within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and, more broadly, the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAP) region. It will also enhance capacity development and promote dialogue between policymakers and stakeholders.

Beyond working with government officials, the IMF Regional Office aims to collaborate with academics, experts, and other relevant parties to advance regional economic development and policy implementation.
