NASA recently transported the core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for the Artemis III mission into the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, according to a release from the agency.
The core stage, the largest section of the SLS rocket, completed a 900-mile journey on the Pegasus barge from the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, where it was manufactured. This move is part of assembling the massive rocket in preparation for the upcoming mission.
Artemis III will launch crew aboard the Orion spacecraft positioned atop the SLS rocket. The mission includes testing rendezvous and docking capabilities between Orion and commercial spacecraft, necessary to support astronaut landings on the Moon.
