The NIH Executive Secretariat represents the National Institutes of Health’s perspective in communications with the Department of Health and Human Services Operating and Staff Divisions and other government agencies. Its role includes serving as an impartial adjudicator to help resolve differences in viewpoints across NIH organizational units.
According to the NIH, the Executive Secretariat disseminates and integrates information and employs best practices to support NIH leadership. The office upholds principles such as integrity, accountability, confidentiality, transparency, and resiliency in fulfilling its responsibilities.
This work is often carried out in collaboration with liaisons in NIH’s Institutes, Centers, and Offices, facilitating coordination and communication throughout the agency.
