The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found that the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Global Health Center committed unlawful employment discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The violation was confirmed in an order dated January 30, 2024.
Federal law prohibits discrimination or harassment against employees or applicants based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or reprisal in employment actions such as hiring, firing, promotion, or compensation. The CDC facility has affirmed its commitment to comply with these provisions.
As a result, the CDC must provide training regarding Title VII and ensure all officials responsible for personnel decisions adhere to federal equal employment opportunity laws. The agency is also prohibited from restraining, interfering with, coercing, or retaliating against individuals exercising their rights under federal EEO laws.
The notice regarding this order is posted by the CDC's Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Workplace Equity and will remain on display until May 7, 2025.
