The FIA Foundation is an independent UK-registered charity established in 2001 with a $300 million donation from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), a non-profit federation for world motor sport and motoring organizations. Its mission includes promoting global road safety, environmental protection, sustainable mobility, and funding motor sport safety research.
The Foundation's objectives include supporting research and sharing information on topics such as road safety, automobile technology, public health, transport, mobility, and environmental conservation. It also prioritizes improving safety for motor sport participants and all road users.
Governed by a Board of Trustees of nine to fifteen members—including the FIA President ex officio, three FIA nominees, and two independent trustees—the Foundation ensures effective administration and upholds the charity's best interests.
The Foundation holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic & Social Council and participates in multiple UN road safety and environment working groups. It serves as the secretariat for initiatives like the Make Road Safe campaign, the Commission for Global Road Safety, and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative. The Foundation is also a member of the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles.
