In March 2026, prices of major basic food commodities in Sudan showed mixed trends, with seven items increasing and four decreasing. As a result, the national average cost of the World Food Programme (WFP) Local Food Basket (LFB) slightly rose to SDG 2,098 per unit, a 0.3 percent increase from February 2026 and a 21 percent increase compared to March 2025.
The Sudanese Pound continued to depreciate, trading at approximately SDG 3,625 per USD in the parallel market—a 29 percent month-on-month increase in the exchange rate. In commercial banks, the exchange rate also increased sharply to SDG 3,100 per USD. Year on year, the currency depreciated by 43 percent in the parallel market and 55 percent in commercial banks.
These trends were reported in the WFP Sudan Market Monitor for April 2026, which assessed the market and food security situation in Sudan.
