The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League marks the 33rd edition with a semi-final stage. A notable tie occurred in 1994/95 when Ajax defeated Bayern Munich 5-2 on aggregate, following a 0-0 first leg and a commanding second leg in Amsterdam, led by Jari Litmanen and other scorers.

In the 1998/99 semi-finals, Bayern Munich edged Dynamo Kyiv 4-3 on aggregate. Dynamo led 3-1 at home in the first leg, but Bayern scored twice late and then secured the only goal in the return leg to progress.

That same year, Manchester United overcame Juventus 4-3 on aggregate in a dramatic second leg. Despite early goals against them, United mounted a comeback inspired by captain Roy Keane, whose headed goal and selfless play were highlighted by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 1999/2000 semi-final saw Valencia impressively eliminate Barcelona 5-3 on aggregate. Valencia's strong home performance included a 4-1 win, with Miguel Ángel Angulo and Gaizka Mendieta making key contributions.

In the 2001/02 semi-finals, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate. Goals from Zinédine Zidane and Steve McManaman helped Madrid end Barcelona's nearly 19-year home unbeaten run in this rivalry.
