World Athletics has opened the bidding process for the 2029 and 2031 World Athletics Championships. Member federations and host institution stakeholders interested in hosting these events are encouraged to consult the bid guide and complete the pre-qualification form, available in the World Athletics Library. The deadline for submitting the pre-qualification form for both events is 1 October 2025.
To assist potential candidates, World Athletics offers an observer programme at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 in September. This programme allows participants to experience behind-the-scenes operations and engage with World Athletics and LOC staff for valuable event hosting insights.
The World Athletics Championships, the peak event of the outdoor athletics season, gather the world’s top athletes competing for their nations. After the 2025 Tokyo event, the next championships will take place in Beijing in 2027.
