During a UN aid mission to south Lebanon, UNICEF spokesperson Christophe Boulierac described severe devastation around a hospital that remains partially operational but is surrounded by rubble and burnt-out vehicles. He noted that the large solar panel generator at the hospital appeared destroyed. Many houses near the facility were also completely destroyed compared to their condition two weeks earlier.
Boulierac reported that the hospital was running low on water, medicine, and energy supplies, and the overall situation continued to pose significant dangers for civilians. More than one million people have been displaced since early March following Hezbollah attacks and subsequent Israeli airstrikes, including about 400,000 children in need of comprehensive support.
Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, stated that ongoing support from UN Member States is critical to strengthening Lebanon's armed forces and providing humanitarian aid. He also noted that despite airstrikes and evacuation orders, around 80,000 civilians remain south of the Litani River, highlighting continued security challenges and the need for appropriate political and practical measures by Israel to facilitate humanitarian efforts.
