Elaine Thompson-Herah anchored Jamaica to victory in the women’s 4x100m relay at the Debswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 26, leading the team to a 42.00 finish with teammates Briana Williams, Jodean Williams, and Lavanya Williams. Thompson-Herah eased up near the finish line but secured first place ahead of Canada and Spain.
Canada, with Marie-Éloïse Leclair and Audrey Leduc—members of its mixed 4x100m relay team that took second place earlier—set a national record at 42.17 to claim second. Spain finished third in 42.31.
Despite Canada’s early lead on the anchor leg by Donna Ntambue, Thompson-Herah overtook her on the home straight, giving Jamaica its second women’s 4x100m win at this event.
Thompson-Herah reported feeling a heavy sensation in her leg during the race, but remained determined to secure gold. She expressed satisfaction at the win and gratitude to compete healthy after her injury comeback.
Earlier, France and Nigeria qualified for the upcoming World Athletics Championships Beijing 27, finishing first and second in the additional round with times of 42.92 and 42.94. Hungary set a national record of 43.32. Australia won another heat in 42.88, qualifying alongside Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which finished second at 42.90.
