Alexander Leicht, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Central America, Mexico, and Colombia, conducted an official visit to El Salvador for the Agustine Project, now in its second year. The project aims to prevent violence in schools by strengthening socio-emotional skills and fostering student participation within safe educational environments.
Funded by the European Union, the project is implemented by UNESCO in cooperation with UNICEF, Expertise France, and the Salvadoran Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MINEDUCYT). Its goal is to create inclusive learning spaces that support peaceful coexistence.
During his visit, Mr. Leicht attended the Fourth Departmental Meeting of Student Councils at Santa Clara School in San Luis Talpa, La Paz. The meeting brought together about 170 student leaders and 170 teachers to promote active student leadership.
The delegation also visited the Alberto Masferrer Educational Complex in Olocuilta, where they observed socio-educational sessions developing student micro-projects. Additionally, they attended a methodological transfer session with teachers and students to support the project's implementation.
UNESCO's visit reinforces its commitment to supporting El Salvador's education system through initiatives that position students as key agents in promoting a culture of peace and inclusivity.
