The World Athletics Council has approved the qualification system and entry standards for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing. The system combines entry standards and world rankings, targeting roughly 40% of athletes through entry standards and 60% via world rankings. This approach aims to bring together the world's top athletes across all disciplines, recognizing both outstanding single performances and consistent competition during the qualification period.

Athletes in individual events can qualify by achieving the entry standard during the window, by finishing positions in designated competitions, through wild cards, or by their world rankings at the end of the period.

The qualifying window for the marathon runs from 3 November 2025 to midnight on 2 May 2027. For the 10,000m, race walks, combined events, and relays, qualifying is open from 23 February 2026 to midnight on 22 August 2027. For all other disciplines, entry standards can be met from 23 August 2026 to midnight on 22 August 2027.

For entry standards, performances must primarily be achieved at category C competitions and above to ensure minimum standards. However, performances in lower category competitions are still valid for world rankings. In addition, road running performances in Label road races (category E) for 5km and 10km events are recognized for entry standards, along with marathon marks.
