China dominated the first day of the World Aquatics Super Final in Beijing, winning the first five gold medals and establishing at least a 40-point lead over other teams in every event except the women’s 3m synchro, where they held a 31.11-point margin. Four individual events remain after the first day’s competitions.

The men’s 3m synchro was won by reigning world champions Wang Zongyuan, 24, and Zheng Jiuyuan, 22, with 460.68 points. Wang credited their success to strong chemistry and mutual encouragement despite injuries during the year. The fifth round was challenging for other teams, especially Mexico’s Osmar Olvera Ibarra and Juan Manuel Celaya Hernandez, who scored 67.26 on a difficult dive. Great Britain’s Jack Laugher, 31, and Anthony Harding, 25, took bronze after Mexico secured silver with a final dive scoring 90.09 points.

In the women’s 3m synchro, world champions Chen Jia, 21, and Chen Yiwen, 26, led every round to secure gold. Australia’s Maddison Keeney, 29, and Alysha Koloi, 24, claimed silver with a strong fourth dive, narrowly beating Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper, 25, and Scarlett Mew Jensen, 25, who took bronze. Chen Yiwen noted her increased consistency in competition with age, despite some variability in training form after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
