Monica Juma has assumed the roles of Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), leading efforts to combat organized crime, corruption, terrorism, human trafficking, and technology-enabled crimes worldwide.

Before joining the United Nations, Juma held key positions in Kenya’s government, including serving as the country's first National Security Adviser and Secretary to the National Security Council. She also held senior ministerial and principal secretary roles across sectors such as foreign affairs, defence, interior, and energy.

Juma emphasized the importance of multi-agency collaboration in tackling complex security challenges, drawing on her experience in tracking risks and opportunities at national, regional, and global levels.

Sworn in by Secretary-General António Guterres, her leadership comes at a crucial time for multilateralism, with the goal of strengthening global cooperation against increasingly sophisticated and interconnected criminal networks to ensure safety, protection, and justice for all.
