The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) is advancing its Energy Cyber Sense program to identify and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities across the energy supply chain, according to a department blog from June 26, 2026.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Deputy Secretary James P. Danly highlighted recent actions by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) at an open meeting, emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen energy security and reliability.

DOE stressed the need to prioritize more efficient permitting processes to encourage private sector investment in vital energy infrastructure, aiming to make energy more affordable, reliable, and secure.

Separately, DOE announced up to $400,000 in awards to small and medium-sized manufacturers and their partners at National Laboratories, universities, and nonprofits. This funding supports advancements in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies to drive innovation and competitiveness.

Additionally, DOE-supported research continues in areas such as converting biomass to alternative fuels and improving advanced manufacturing materials, with ongoing studies on chemical changes due to climate fluctuations and energy-efficient storage methods for microalgae biomass.
