World Athletics has ratified seven senior and one under-20 world records from competitions held in the first five months of 2026.
Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer set a new world indoor heptathlon record with 6670 points during the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 in March, surpassing Ashton Eaton’s 2012 record of 6645. Ehammer's performance included a 6.69 in the 60m, 8.31m long jump, 7.52 in the 60m hurdles, and a personal best 2:41.04 in the 1000m.
Devynne Charlton equaled her world indoor 60m hurdles record, running 7.65 seconds to retain her title at the same championships.
Kenyan Sabastian Sawe became the first man to officially break two hours in a record-eligible marathon, recording 1:59:30 at the TCS London Marathon and lowering Kelvin Kiptum's previous 2:00:35 mark. Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha also finished under two hours, while Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo placed third.
Ethiopian Tigst Assefa set a new women-only marathon record with 2:15:41, defending her title at the same race and improving her previous 2:15:50 mark. For the first time, three women finished under 2:16 in this race.
In pole vault, Mondo Duplantis improved his world record by one centimeter, clearing 6.31 meters at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, his birthplace and namesake meet.
