World Aquatics has welcomed the International Olympic Committee's announcement that its recommendations to international federations regarding Russian athletes' participation will no longer apply.
World Aquatics stated that over the past three years, both it and the Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) have shown that sporting competitions can be conducted peacefully even during times of conflict. This informed the decision in April to allow senior Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in World Aquatics events under the same terms as athletes from other countries.
World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam affirmed their commitment to ensuring aquatic sports remain a platform for unity through peaceful competition and welcomed the IOC's updated recommendation.
