Less than three weeks after Paris Saint-Germain's 2025/26 UEFA Champions League victory, preparations for the 2026/27 season have begun. UEFA invited 186 clubs set to compete in Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League qualifying rounds to the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland. The gathering included first and second qualifying round draws and briefings to align clubs on operational and regulatory details before the season starts on 7 July 2026.
UEFA deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti emphasized the event's importance for mutual learning and collaboration between UEFA and the clubs, which are essential partners in the competitions. The aim was to ensure all clubs start the season informed and prepared, fostering cooperation for an optimal competition environment.
Among the attendees were two second division clubs making their European debut: Icelandic Cup winners Vestri and Portuguese Cup winners Torreense. Vestri COO Ivar Petursson voiced excitement about their European debut and noted the logistical challenge of facing Qarabağ, a surprise from last season’s Champions League. He also highlighted the enthusiasm among fans after the live draw.
Beyond the matches, UEFA emphasized the event as a chance for clubs to grow, learn, and build for the future in European football.
