Djamel Sedjati won the men’s 800m final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship Budapest 26, finishing in 1:41.91 and setting a Hungarian all-comers’ record.
Canada's Marco Arop, the defending world champion and winner in Budapest in 2023, led the early stages, clocking 49.67 for the first lap, closely followed by world and Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Arop held the lead with 200 metres to go but slowed on the home straight.
Sedjati, known for his finishing speed, surged ahead with about 25 metres remaining to take the win. Arop secured second in 1:42.28, while Wanyonyi finished third with 1:42.44. Notably, the first seven competitors completed the race in under 1:43.
