Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino secured two gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, helping the Dominican Republic win the mixed 4x400m relay and defending her 400m title with a Games record of 48.94 seconds, improving her previous record by 1.01 seconds. The Dominican relay team finished in 3:10.57, over four seconds faster than their 2023 winning time, with teammates Erick Sánchez, Anabel Medina, and Christopher Melenciano. Paulino's anchor leg was timed at 48.51 seconds. Gabriel Moronta also won the men's 400m for the Dominican Republic in 44.70 seconds, keeping Olympic medallist Kirani James off the podium.
In the javelin throw, Colombia's Flor Denis Ruiz retained her title with a throw of 67.34 meters, improving her own South American record and ranking her second on the world list for the year. This was her third CAC Games title since 2014.
Puerto Rico's Jose Figueroa set a CAC Games record in the 200m semifinals with 19.76 seconds, moving him to sixth on the 2024 world list after a strong mixed relay performance.
Other standout performances included Colombia's Maria Murillo setting a national record and becoming the third fastest South American in the women's 100m hurdles at 12.64 seconds, just ahead of Cuba's Greisys Roble. Panama's Giana Woodruff won the women's 400m hurdles in a Games record of 53.98 seconds. The men's 400m hurdles title went to the Dominican Republic's Yeral Nunez, with 48.30 seconds.
Cuba and the Dominican Republic set several Games records: Cuba’s Dayi Cooper in the 1500m (4:07.46), Dominican Republic’s Liranyi Alonzo in the 100m (11.10), and Alvaro Abreu in the half marathon (1:02:48), along with Mexico's Laura Galvan (1:13:43). Ronald Longa became the first Colombian to win the men's 100m, clocking 10.06 seconds.
