Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic claimed the 400m title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest with a time of 49.07 seconds, extending her winning streak to 12 consecutive victories in the event. She remains unbeaten across all disciplines this year, according to the event report.
Bahrain's 2019 world champion Salwa Naser started strongly and made up the stagger by the back straight, while Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands was level with Naser at halfway. However, Paulino surged to the front around the final bend with approximately 70 metres remaining and increased her lead down the home straight, finishing ahead of her rivals.
Henriette Jaeger of Norway, the European champion, took second in 49.28 seconds, while Jamaica's Nickisha Pryce finished third in 49.56 seconds. Klaver placed fourth with 49.91 seconds, and Naser faded to eighth.
Paulino said she was pleased with her victory, stating that the Ultimate Championship title was her main goal. She plans to compete next at the Athlos event in London, aiming for another sub-49 second run.
