Sweden's Liam Belo da Silva claimed gold in the decathlon at the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26, setting a personal and world U20-leading best of 8112 points. This performance marked his first time surpassing the 8000-point barrier in the event. Despite a heel injury, Belo da Silva maintained a dominant position over two days and 10 events.

Belo da Silva's standout moments included a 2.15m clearance in the high jump, matching the championship decathlon best, and a championship best of 51.95m in the discus throw. A 4.80m pole vault clearance extended his lead to 133 points heading into the final two events.

The javelin throw saw the Netherlands’ Mikai Snoek register a personal best of 70.25m, closing the gap in the medal chase behind Belo da Silva. Japan’s Kiichi Miyashita and Czechia’s Adam Juliš also set season or personal bests to remain in contention. Going into the last event, the 1500m, Belo da Silva held a commanding lead.

In the 1500m, Belo da Silva ran a season's best 4:39.51 to secure a national U20 record and gold. Snoek's 4:38.53 allowed him to overtake Juliš for silver with 7887 points, just 10 points ahead of Juliš, who posted a personal best of 7877 points. France’s Kilian Trochain finished fourth with 7856 points, 21 behind Juliš.
