Kirill Kosimov, a Russian diver who will turn 16 in December, won the boys' 16-18 years 10m platform event at the Junior World Diving Championships in Rijeka, Croatia. He claimed the gold medal in a closely contested final against Ukraine’s Mark Hrytsenko, finishing just 3.80 points ahead. Kosimov had previously earned gold in the 10m synchronized event three days earlier, adding to his individual title.
In the final round, Kosimov and Hrytsenko were tied with 502.90 points before the last dive. Kosimov’s final back 2½ with 1½ twists earned high marks, with four judges awarding him 9s. Hrytsenko chose a higher difficulty dive but received lower scores, resulting in his silver medal.
Hrytsenko said he was unaware they were tied before his last dive and hopes for better results next season. Bronze medalist Nie Jun of China cited a miscalculation on his third dive, affecting his standing, and said he plans to continue training.
In the girls' 3m springboard event for ages 14-15, Mexican diver Mia Cueva Lobato took gold, with her sister Lia earning bronze. China’s Chen Xiangling secured silver, sharing the podium with the Cueva Lobato twins.
