Melissa Jefferson-Wooden delivered the standout performance on the final day of the US Championships in New York, winning the women's 200m in a season-best 21.69 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off her lifetime best from the Tokyo World Championships last year. Cambrea Sturgis finished second in 22.22 seconds.
In a surprise, Garrett Kaalund won the men's 200m title in 20.04 seconds. Four-time world champion Noah Lyles, who won the 100m in a world-leading 9.79 seconds two days earlier, pulled up with cramp during the 200m final, ending a winning streak dating to July 2025.
Seventeen-year-old world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus claimed the men's 800m title with a time of 1:43.48. Lutkenhaus held back during the first lap before surging to the lead with just over 200 meters left, winning by more than a second.
The men’s 110m hurdles final was exceptionally close, with world champion Cordell Tinch edging out Bradley Franklin. Both clocked 13.00 seconds, a season's best for Tinch and a personal best for Franklin, but Tinch was awarded the win by just four thousandths of a second.
In the 400m hurdles, Olympic silver medalist Anna Cockrell claimed the women’s title with a season-best 52.94 seconds, while Christopher Robinson took the men’s race in 47.61 seconds.
The women's long jump ended dramatically as Alyssa Jones was crowned champion after Olympic and world champion Tara Davis-Woodhall's final-round leap of 7.16 meters was ruled a foul. Jones led with a jump of 6.96 meters, snapping Davis-Woodhall's unbeaten streak since the 2023 World Championships.
Other notable results include Valarie Sion returning to winning form in the discus with a 69.54-meter throw, avenging a recent defeat by Cierra Jackson, who took second with 67.40 meters. Jordan Geist won his first US shot put title with 22.32 meters, followed by Tripp Piperi with 21.91 meters.
