Isak Børslien is recognized as Norway’s leading diver and is expected to represent the nation at the 2026 senior European Championships in Paris, France. He has won two bronze medals at the Junior European Championships and a silver at the 2024 Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
While competing at an elite level in diving, Børslien also works as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and is training to become a rescue paramedic with Norway’s Search and Rescue (SAR) or Air Ambulance (HEMS) helicopter teams. He has already helped save lives, including assisting three heart attack victims and helping deliver a baby.
Certification as a rescue paramedic in Norway requires four years of combined work and education, followed by a year of mandatory military service. Applicants must apply between the ages of 26 and 36 and face a highly selective boot camp, where few are chosen for further field training before securing the role. Børslien plans to complete his certification in five years due to his diving commitments.
Børslien’s interest in diving began in Bergen, Norway’s aquatic center. Inspired by the national arena named after Alexander Dale Oen, a renowned Olympic swimmer from Bergen, Børslien switched from gymnastics to diving after attending a show at age 9 and receiving coaching support through his father’s connections. His coach has noted similarities in their dedication and early training.
