The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has begun digitising its extensive archives to preserve the heritage of motor sport and mobility for future generations. This effort aims to create an e-library that will serve as a resource for FIA Member Clubs and, from 2024, the general public, coinciding with the FIA's 120th anniversary.
The project has four main objectives: to preserve the FIA’s motor sport and mobility heritage, create research opportunities for scientists, media, and enthusiasts, promote the FIA's role in motor sport development, and improve cooperation within the FIA community. The database is expected to include millions of pages, such as the FIA’s handwritten Acte Fondateur dated 20 June 1904 and land speed records from the twentieth century, which may provide valuable data for engineering and safety research.
FIA Member Clubs currently have exclusive access to a beta version of the e-library and are invited to contribute to the FIA historical database by submitting their own documents, research, and illustrations. The e-library represents months of collaborative work involving FIA teams from the Sport and Mobility Divisions, IT, Communications, Legal Departments, and recognised experts in digitisation and archiving.
