Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme won the men’s 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a time of 9.83 seconds, setting new Games and national records in wet conditions. Eseme's performance places him third on the African all-time list and makes him the third-fastest sprinter this season. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy took silver with a 9.85-second run, breaking the Oceanian record, while Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi claimed bronze in 9.90 seconds. The top four finishers all completed the race in under 10 seconds. During the semifinals, Eseme also set a national record of 9.89 seconds. Both Ajayi and Kennedy clocked 9.94 seconds in the semifinals, with Kennedy achieving a personal best.
In the women’s hammer throw, Canada’s Camryn Rogers improved the Games record with a final throw of 74.91 meters, surpassing her own 2018 mark of 74.68 meters. Compatriot Ethan Katzberg also broke the men’s hammer throw Games record with an 80.97-meter effort, bettering the previous record of 80.26 meters. Katzberg’s four valid throws were all over 80 meters. Iosif Kesidis of Cyprus took silver with 76.97 meters, and Rowan Hamilton secured bronze for Canada at 75.36 meters.
The women’s high jump, delayed by rain, concluded with Eleanor Patterson clearing 1.96 meters on her final attempt, equalling the Games record and leading an Australian one-two. World champion Nicola Olyslagers finished second at 1.93 meters.
Australia also earned victories in the 10,000 meters: Rose Davies won the women’s race in 31:39.32, and Ky Robinson took the men’s title in 27:48.93. Kenya’s Diana Wanza placed second in the women’s event, while Florence Niyonkuru earned bronze, becoming Rwanda’s first Commonwealth Games medallist. India’s Gulveer Singh and Isle of Man’s David Mullarkey won silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 10,000 meters.
