Three-time Olympic heptathlon champion Nafissatou Thiam and Tokyo Olympic decathlon gold medallist Damian Warner will headline the athlete fields at the 50th anniversary edition of Décastar, the final World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold meeting in Talence on 18–19 September.
Thiam will contest her first full heptathlon of the year after competing in select events at the Combined Events Tour Gold meeting in Ratingen and in the high jump at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels. Her recent performances include winning the heptathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with 6880 points, the third-highest score of her career, behind her national record from 2017 and her 2022 World Championships result. Thiam will face other athletes who have surpassed 6300 points this season, such as Germany’s Vanessa Grimm and Lithuania’s Beatričė Juškevičiūtė. British athletes Niamh Emerson, returning from injury, and Ellen Barber will also compete, along with Sweden’s Lovisa Karlsson and Germany’s Anna-Elisabeth Ehlers.
Damian Warner will make his third decathlon appearance of the year. The Canadian holds the national record and the Tokyo 2021 Olympic gold, and has four World Championships medals. This season, he scored 8497 points for fourth in Götzis and won silver at the Commonwealth Games. Warner will compete against compatriot Pierce LePage, Norway’s Sander Skotheim, Dutch athlete Jeff Tesselaar, Estonia’s Karel Tilga, and France’s Makenson Gletty. Skotheim holds a season best of 8433 points and is the 2025 world indoor heptathlon champion, while Gletty recorded 8458 points in Ratingen. The field also includes US athletes Harrison Williams, Hakim McMorris, Devon Williams, and Dutch Olympic fourth-place finisher Sven Roosen.
